The silky and refined flavors are wonderfully seductive with an intense minerality to the austere, bone dry and balanced finish that exudes hints of saline and iodine. In sum, this is flat out stunning. On the palate this is dense, powerful and quite serious with brooding flavors that brim with dry extract that buffers the firm acid spine on the intensely mineral-driven and explosively long finish. This is the biggest wine in the range yet impeccably well-balanced and if not exactly refined, then certainly not rustic either. A 'wow' wine.
(Corton-Charlemagne- Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils) All of the vines owned by the domaine on the hill of Corton face directly east, so this is one of the “cooler” examples of Corton-Charlemagne- which I find to be amongst the very best in these days of global warming, as they retain greater nervosité in general than examples from vines with more southerly-oriented expositions. The 2011 from Domaine Bouchard is a great wine, soaring from the glass in a complex mélange of apple, a touch of grapefruit, lime oil, chalky, stony soil tones, orange zest, vanillin oak and a topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and quite reserved in personality, with a rock solid core of fruit, brisk acids and stunning length and grip on the perfectly balanced and youthful finish. A classic in the making. (Drink between 2022-2050)
(Bouchard Pere et Fils Corton-Charlemagne) Good pale yellow. Pure, scented nose offers aromas of lime, pineapple, acacia flower and powdered stone. Sappy, spicy and dense with extract, boasting lovely definition and a pronounced mineral character. Finishes saline, savory and dry, with a tactile crushed stone quality. The percentage of new oak here will only be about 10% by the time of the bottling (it's aging mostly in one- and three-year-old barrels).

2011 Bouchard Meursault Perrieres - $69.99

By John Gilman

The superb nose offers up a fairly primary blend of apple, pear, a touch of passion fruit, iodine, chalky soil tones and a nice framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a huge core of fruit, brisk acids and stunning backend intensity and grip on the very long, pure and laser-like finish. A great wine.
(Bouchard Pere et Fils Meursault Perrieres) (made from three different parcels): Pale bright yellow. Perfumed aromas of lemon peel and acacia flower. Chewy, saline and savory, with harmonious acidity (4.1 grams per liter) and underlying minerality accentuating the flavors of lemon, lime and truffle. With its strong mineral component and inner-mouth aromatic character, this almost tastes like it's from another vintage.
(Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis - Clos des Hospices Grand Cru White) There is a bit more wood in evidence compared to the "regular" Les Clos cuvée though not so much that it restrains one's ability to appreciate the otherwise fresh, cool and classic Chablis-suffused nose. There is excellent concentration to the powerful and extract-rich big-bodied flavors that possess an almost chewy texture before terminating in a gorgeously long, dry and well-balanced finish. This will also require 6 to 8 years to be at its best. (Drink starting 2017)
(Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils Chablis Clos des Hospices) (entirely in tank now): Bright, pale, green-tinged yellow. Highly aromatic nose offers scents of white peach, flowers, chlorophyll, spices and herbs. Fat, rich, supple and sweet; much more silky and less austere than the "regular" Clos. Lovely impression of sucrosite . Finishes with enticing lingering sweetness and a firm mineral edge. This wine become more integrated even with ten minutes in the glass; it should offer considerable near-term appeal and age well. For his part, Fabien Moreau finds it a bit "excessive" today and believes it will benefit from its remaining months of elevage .

2011 Billaud Simon Chablis 1er Montee de Tonnerre - $36.99

A beautifully nuanced and layered nose offers up notes of mineral reduction, citrus and high-toned white flower perfume.
(Domaine Billaud Simon Chablis Montee de Tonnerre) Pale green-yellow. Pure, discreet aromas of citrus fruit and herbs. Supple, juicy and precise, with a firm edge of mineral austerity to the citrus and mint flavors. Plenty of volume and density here but quite closed today and not yet showing its fruit. Finishes long and fresh, with very good lift and surprising volume to the finishing flavors of minerals and spearmint. There is ample dry extract that buffers well the very firm and bright acidity that supports the transparent, long and refined finish. This is beautifully well-balanced and while it's very early on, this appears that it will reach its apogee somewhat sooner than is typical. There is really lovely intensity to the dry and precise finish and overall, this offers terrific quality for a villages level wine. Recommended.

The large-scaled flavors are overtly powerful and impressively concentrated as there is plenty of palate staining dry extract that also buffers the very firm acidity that supports and shapes the gorgeously precise finish. This explosively long effort possesses exquisite balance and the tightly wound flavors are going to need at least a decade to completely bloom. A knock out. Bright pale yellow. White peach on the nose, along with a saline,
almost iodiney quality. Extremely concentrated and sappy but seamless,
with palate-staining lemon, lime, spice and salty flavors. A wine of
uncanny chewy density and minerality. Really stains the palate on the

(Domaine/Maison Henri Boillot Chevalier-Montrachet) Knockout nose combines strong metallic minerality, crushed rock, citrus peel and a high note of lavender. Penetrating, minerally and dry, with terrific definition in the middle palate. The endless rising finish combines a compellingly silky texture, subtle sweetness and outstanding energy. The 2010 Les Demoiselles is a classic in the making. The deep, pure and
quite primary nose offers up scents of apple, pear, lemon zest, chalky
minerality, apple blossoms and new wood. On the palate the wine is deep,
full-bodied and nascently complex, with magical purity on the attack, a
rock solid core of fruit, laser-like focus and flawless focus and
balance on the very, very long, youthful and stunning finish. A great
vintage of Les Demoiselles. (Drink between 2019-2060)Â Â 96+Â points

Here there is no reduction and the purity of the elegant if highly

stunning. Not surprisingly, the medium-bodied flavors are much finer than
those of the Bâtard or Corton-Charlemagne though not as big or powerful.
The acid spine is also quite firm but somewhat better integrated as there
is no obvious malic tang, all wrapped in a gorgeously intense, lingering
and impeccably well-balanced finish. (Puligny-Montrachet “Folatières”- Domaine Leflaive) Folatières is always one of the more buxom and forward premier crus in the village of Puligny, as the warmer microclimate here tends to give top examples of this cru an early generosity that is most appealing. The 2010 from Leflaive couples this youthful succulence with the superb transparency of the vintage and absolutely laser-like precision to produce a really stunning bottle, as the wine offers up a scintillating bouquet of apple, tangerine, a touch of pink grapefruit, great, chalky soil tones, vanillin oak and a topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very suave on the attack, with a seamless personality, lovely mid-palate depth and an absolutely rapier-like backend of snappy acids and magical grip. slowly building, palate-saturating finish has to be one of the longest

the very warm 2009 vintage. For Chablis connoisseurs. 95(+?) points

2008 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre - $139.99

John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2009
The 2008 Clos de la Barre is extremely elegant and refined in this vintage. The bouquet is deep, pure and complex, as it offers up scents of apple, pear, fresh almond, a touch of tangerine, a lovely base of complex minerality and a touch of vanilla. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and complex, with great transparency, fine mid-palate depth and a long, classy and zesty finish. Delicious juice. Â 92+ points.

As it almost always is, this is aromatically more refined with admirably pure and wonderfully fresh hazelnut and peach aromas laced with discreet exotic fruit and citrus hints adding pretty top notes. There is good volume to the precise and energetic middle weight flavors that possess a bit more underlying material and fine length on the bone dry finish. I particularly like the complexity and overall sense of harmony. 90 points and Outstanding.

2009 Leflaive Batard Montrachet - $375.00

Â
