The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Aux Boudots comes across as weighty and substantial, especially after the Roncieres. Black cherries, plums, graphite, menthol, flowers and deep, exotic spices meld together impressively in this totally striking wine. The Boudots boasts tremendous textural depth and intensity all the way through to the round, sensual finish. At times it comes across as very Vosne-like, hardly a surprise given that Boudots lies next to Malconsorts. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.Â Wine Advocate 92-94

There is a touch of reduction that doesn't really particularly interfere with the expressiveness of the lightly spiced nose of ripe red currant, plum, violets and ample earth influence. The earth can also be found on the caressing middle weight flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a seductive mouth feel and buffers the moderately tannic spine. This is actually quite succulent yet the finish is sufficiently firm to suggest that this will require 10 to 12 years of cellar time first. Burghound 92 Outstanding!

An earthy, pure and magnificently complex nose of a ripe combination of wild red berry fruit, discreet spice and earth notes plus an undertone of sauvage is trimmed in discreet but not invisible wood treatment. There is also plenty of earth on the rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that possess excellent volume. This is a very serious example of the appellation as the supporting tannins are decidedly prominent, indeed to the point that the strikingly long finish is distinctly austere yet there is no detectable rusticity. A classic Clos de Vougeot that will require at least 15 plus years of cellar time. Burghound 94

The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is another fabulous wine bursting with energy and a sense of urgency that is hard to capture with mere words. Freshly cut roses, crushed rocks and red berries come together beautifully in the glass. The Clos de Vougeot is impeccable and totally engaging from start to finish. The only possible downside is that the seriously firm tannins will require considerable bottle age to soften. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2035. Wine Advocate 94-96

A discreet application of wood does not reduce the considerable appeal of the ripe, pure and airy nose with its broad mÃ©lange of wild red berry fruit liqueur, earth, spice, violets and a hint of animale. The broad-shouldered flavors possess superb mid-palate concentration that enrobes the buried but still quite firm tannins while culminating in a beautifully balanced, muscular and explosively long finish. This is also very clearly built to age yet like the Clos St. Denis, there is so much sap that this could be drunk now with pleasure. A 'wow' wine. Burghound 95-97

A pure and gorgeously complex nose offers up notes of extract of black pinot fruit, stone, anise, sandalwood and lavender nuances. The flavor profile displays more volume and richness than the regular Caillerets with perhaps a bit more minerality as well before culminating in a palate soaking finish that goes on and on. Note however that this is a distinctly firm wine in the context of the 2011 vintage and will need at least a decade of bottle age to arrive at its peak. This is fresh, bright and quite ripe with good aromatic complexity and plenty of Gevrey earth followed by medium weight flavors that evidence good concentration and mid-palate sap plus impressive acid/fruit/tannin balance. While this is not truly an elegant wine, as villages level Gevrey goes, this is really quite pretty. 88 points - Burghound Jan '05

Burghound Producer note: Readers may have heard that Corinne Rousseau has left the domaine and hired Anne Schussler-Naudin to replace her. Mme Schussler together with Charles Rousseau's son Eric, who makes the wines, report that 2004 "had its fair share of challenges but other than the hail, we did not suffer greatly from any of the various maladies that plagued certain domaines. 2004 was a more generous vintage than 2003 but we were careful not to extract too much as the phenolic ripeness, while perfectly good, were not at the level of say a 1999 or 2002. The malos were not particularly extended and were essentially done by the summer and the first racking was in September." For readers who may not be aware, the oak regimen chez Rousseau varies considerably, with the Gevrey up though to the Mazis being aged in 2 year old wood, the Clos de la Roche and Ruchottes in 15% new wood and the "big three" in 100% new wood. The present plan is to bottle as usual in July though some of the lower level wines might be bottled in May, depending on how the fruit matures.

This is impressive as it is clearly Nuits in character yet with refined and sophisticated structural elements. Also recommended. 89-92 points.

The Clos de la MarÃ©chale is also outstanding in 2005, as it very nicely avoids any signs of the slight overripeness that can be found in some examples of Nuits in this vintage. The '05 Clos de la MarÃ©chale offers up a complex and classic Nuits nose of red cherries, strawberries, orange zest, woodsmoke, excellent minerality, a touch of the gamebirds to come, coffee and just the faintest whiff of spicy wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and transparent, with a lovely austerity that is almost a relief after all the opulent 2005s, a sappy core of red fruit, beautiful focus, and excellent length and grip on the tangy, ripely tannic finish. One does not expect young Nuits in a great vintage to offer a lot of early generosity, and the '05 Clos de la MarÃ©chale is beautifully balanced on its structural elements, but it will not take too many years of bottle age for this wine to really begin to sing. A Nuits St. Georges with a Chambolle's heart in 2005. Most impressive. 2012-2035. 92+ points.

The 2008 Les Cailles is a stellar wine in the making, and it was simply singing at the time of my visit. The bouquet is deep, very pure and classy, as it offers up scents of red and black cherries, great minerality, woodsmoke, gamebirds, gentle nutty tones and a deft touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, very pure and quite closed, with great mid-palate depth, fine-grained, substantial tannins and a very long, soil-driven and tangy finish. This is also notably ripe with an expressive and very fresh nose of black cherry, floral and stone aromas that complement well the intensely mineral-inflected broad-shouldered and precise flavors where the supporting structure possesses excellent phenolic maturity, all wrapped in a driving, serious, austere and stunningly long finish. This is simply terrific though note that it will not be an early drinker. Â 92-95 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding.

Medium red, much lighter than the Clos des Epenots. Quite closed on the nose, hinting at redcurrant, smoke, game and underbrush. Much farther along in its elevage than the Clos des Epenots: suppler and suaver, and seemingly closer to needing bottling. Took on a darker fruit character with aeration. Builds impressively on the back end, finishing with mounting, fine-grained tannins and excellent length. This went through its malo early (in March of 2010) and that may have cost it some color, noted Confuron. Â 92-94 points.

This is also very fresh and bright with pure aromas of ripe red currant, warm earth, violets and subtle spice hints that are in keeping with the energetic, intense and admirably rich full-bodied flavors that envelope the palate with velvety sap on the beautifully balanced and impressively persistent finish. I very much like the sense of underlying tension because despite this being a big wine with plenty of concentration, the balance is impeccable and there is absolutely nothing ponderous about this complete effort that is well-structured but not so much so that it is in the "buy and forget" category. In short, buy it. Burghound 92-95 Sweet Spot Outstanding!

The 2009 Clos des Epeneaux is segregated into several different cuvÃ©es based on vineyard location and will then be blended in varying proportions. Producer note: Benjamin Leroux described the 2009 vintage as a "relatively easy one because the growing season wasn't difficult and the harvest produced fruit that was ripe, clean and balanced. We began picking on the 12th of September and the vinification was straightforward. I like the '09 reds because unlike some of the whites that suffer from a bit of surmaturitÃ©, they are quite pure and reflect well the underlying terroir." A discreet hint of wood sets off an equally expressive and also very fresh nose of animale infused red and dark berry fruit aromas. The rich, mouth coating and intense middle weight flavors are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that confers a velvety palate impression on the mildly rustic and persistent finish. Solid quality here.

Bertrand Chevillon called the 2009 a vintage that created "very powerful, ripe and concentrated wines. We picked from the 11th to the 17th of September under perfect harvest conditions. Sugars ranged from 12.5 to 13.5% and we chaptalized nothing. Yields were generous yet by no means excessive and the wines possess plenty of dry extract so there is no sense of dilution. The vinification was straightforward and the malos were normal so it was one of those rare vintages where there was no stress from start to finish. As to the wines, 2009 reminds me of 2005 or 1999." The Chevillon wines have a long history of offering some of the best value wines in all of the CÃ´te d'Or and deservedly so. Readers should know however that the 2009 vintage produced, in several cases, the best examples that I have ever seen from cask chez Chevillon, which is saying something given how many great wines I have reviewed at this address. Here too there is a subtle touch of wood that does not interfere with the clear expression of the intensely earthy and sauvage character of lightly spiced red berry and cassis aromas. The supple yet quite concentrated broad-shouldered flavors are supported by very firm tannins before culminating in a tension-filled, serious and notably austere finish that is intense to the point of being borderline painful. This should be very long-lived because despite being a very big wine, the balance is faultless. Â 92-95 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding

The elegance of the finest examples of the 2009 vintage is very much on display in this great young vintage of Vaucrains. The beautifully pure nose offers up scents of red and black cherries, blood orange, a great base of complex soil tones, game, woodsmoke, coffee, raw cocoa and a nice touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, full-bodied and nicely reserved, with a great core of fruit, brilliant minerality, ripe tannins and simply stunning length and grip on the endless finish. A great, great bottle of Nuits. Â 95+ points

Dark red with ruby tones. The nose shows a darker fruit character than the Saint-Georges, with tangy black cherry, chocolate and crushed stone aromas complicated by game and leather. Large-scaled, liqueur-like and powerful, but less polite than the Saint-Georges, with a distinctly wild leather and meat quality. This broad-shouldered wine boasts a deep sweetness and spreads out impressively on the chocolatey back end. Can't match the Saint-Georges for finesse or perfume but there's enough minerality here to give the wine terrific punch. Â 92-94 points

However the serious, brooding and powerful medium weight plus flavors possess buckets of extract that confer a seductive and velvety mouth feel to the driving, palate staining and explosively long finish. This is another extraordinary vintage for this wine in a long line of them. 92-94 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding

The 2009 les Cailles from the Chevillons is simply stunning, as it soars from the glass in a flamboyant nose of black cherries, blood orange, bitter chocolate, stunning minerality, woodsmoke, a touch of gamebird, dried violets and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure, with a great core of fruit, bright acids, ripe tannins and magical length and grip on the youthful and intensely flavored finish. This is a great, great example of Chevillon les Cailles. 95 points

Bright dark red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, crushed stone, spicy oak, minerals and leather. Wonderfully tangy and delineated but at the same time seamless, with superb energy and concentration to its raspberry and spice flavors. Finishes very long and scented, with substantial fine tannins. A wine of great finesse: this would provide fodder for those who believe this vineyard is capable of performing at grand cru level. 93-95 points

This possesses the most elegant nose among these Savigny 1ers with complex and fresh aromas of violets, plum, earth, wet stone and a smoky hint that precede rich, intense, detailed and highly energetic middle weight flavors that are shaped by the very firm tannins on the impressively persistent finish. This doesn't have quite the same level of complexity as the Talmettes but it may in time as there is ample underlying material and like many of the Bize '09s, this is unapologetically built to age.Â 92-94 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding.

The brilliant bouquet roars from the glass in a beautiful blend of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, a myriad of Savigny spice tones, very complex minerality, roses and woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and utterly seamless, with great mid-palate depth, stunning purity, ripe, elegant tannins and superb length and grip on the tangy and transparent finish. This is the Rouge bottling Bourgogne Les Perrieres - its rich, ripe and full bodied with excellent cut and minerality. Blind tasting this you would be very surprised it is classified Bourgogne - cleary drinks at a much higher level. Not to be missed - Especially at this price point! Vins Rare - 90 points!

This offers up a completely different aromatic profile than that of the Mazis with its extremely cool, restrained and ultra-elegant nose of a broad range of wild red berry fruits, stone, floral notes and spice hints. There is exceptionally good purity and transparency to the intensely mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that evidence ample power on the impeccably well-balanced and linear finish. This is a really lovely effort that embodies that ineffable quality of power without weight. 93-95 points and Don't Miss!
