Marconnets was also still in barrel at the time of my visit, but its malohad just finished up a very short time before and was a bit more grumpy about beingtasted. The nose is very pure and vibrant, jumping from the glass in a blend of red andblack cherries, a touch of currant, coffee, stony soil tones, gamebirds and a smokytopnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with a superbsignature of soil, firm, well-integrated tannins and outstanding length and grip on thesoil-driven finish. Given that this has just completed its malo and is still a bit gassy, it ishard to say just how focused it is at the present time, but I have little doubt that this willbe stunning once it recovers a bit from its recent malolactic. 2020-2050+. 92-93?
