Allen Meadows' Burghound, Jan 2011
(Note: from .34 ha parcel planted in 1955.) Relatively strong reduction renders the nose impossible to fairly evaluate but the rich, supple and generous middle weight flavors possess good vibrancy and the supporting tannins are actually quite fine, all wrapped in a complex and impressively persistent finish. Lovely. 89-92 points.
John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2010
The last couple of vintages of the Fourrier Petits Vougeots have really been stellar and the 2009 is no exception. The bouquet offers up a beautifully pure mélange of red and black cherries, a blood orange, a touch of bonfire, chalky soil tones, cocoa, a touch of nuttiness and a spicy topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and tangy, with moderate tannins, lovely focus, very good grip and a long, classy finish. “Petits Vougeots, if one looks at the map” says Jean-Marie Fourrier, “is really a part of Chambolle, and was probably appended onto the village of Vougeot just so they could claim to have a bit of premier cru in addition to all the grand cru.” Hard to disagree with him there, particularly when one has a glass of this very, very Chambolle-like wine in one’s hand! 92 points. |
