Representing a blend from all five of their sites but favoring Champ de Cour and Carquelin, Chateau des Jacques’s 2009 Moulin-a-Vent smells of black and red raspberry, with heliotrope and lily overtones. With a striking and surprising sense of seamless oily-richness to its sweetly, exuberantly berry-brimmed palate impression, this reveals satisfying low-toned salted meat stock character that persists all the way through a lingering, lip-smacking finish. I suspect this already exceptional value will gain detail and finesse and be worth following for 4-6 years. WA 91-92

2009 Moulin-à-Vent- Château des Jacques (Maison Louis Jadot)
This is the first 2009 bottling released from Château des Jacques and there will be
several more cuvées released from this vintage over the coming year. The “basic” ’09
Moulin-à-Vent from Château des Jacques is absolutely stellar and very impressively
transparent out of the blocks, as it delivers a complex aromatic mélange of red and black
cherries, raw cocoa, pungent violets, a great base of soil and a bit of cedary wood. On the
palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and poised, with a rock solid core of fruit, a very
primary palate profile at the present time, tangy acids, a fair bit of tannin to resolve and a
very long and fairly powerful finish (particularly for Beaujolais) that today shows just a
trace of its 13.5 percent alcohol. I would tuck this outstanding bottle away in the cellar
for at least another three or four years and then drink it over the ensuing thirty to forty
years. This is a terrific wine in the making and I cannot wait to taste my way up the 2009
food chain at Château des Jacques over the coming year! 2013-2040+. 92+.
