Allen Meadows' Burghound, May 2011.
While the aromatic profile is similar, this doesn't offer quite the same level of aromatic refinement as the Guettes but it's even more complex. The rich, powerful and opulent big-bodied flavors possess a taut muscularity and seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that relegate the otherwise very firm tannic spine to the background. This is not an elegant Savigny but it will live for years. 91-94 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding.
John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2010.
The 2009 Fourrneaux is an absolute tour de force in 2009, as the wine soars from the glass in a stunning mélange of red and black cherries, currants, espresso, lovely minerality, a touch of blood orange and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very transparent this year, with a fine core, suave and ripe tannins, tangy acids and absolutely stunning length and grip on the soil-driven and utterly refined finish. This is an absolutely complete Savigny premier cru that fully shows just how stunning the best wines of this village can be in a great vintage. 93+ points.
