Sportoletti’s Assisi Rosso is one of the great values in Italian wine, and the 2008 is another in a long line of gorgeous wines. Ripe red cherries, tobacco, sweet herbs and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from this juicy, plump offering. The 2008 is a touch more lithe than some previous vintages but it is nevertheless outstanding for its overall balance and sense of harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013. Wine Advocate 89 Its a blend of Sangiovese (50%), Merlot (30%) Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). We were knocked out by the quality and texture of this beautiful wine - plenty of ripe red fruits with hints of herb and tobacco that work nicely with the spice that comes from the Sangiovese. This is another in a string of excellent wines being produced from Sportoletti. A great table wine that offers plenty of bang for the Buck. Vins Rare 90 points - Excellent Value!
