In contrast to the Aux Echézeaux, the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes was only a bit more than half way through its malo, and was really impossible to really handicap. The nose showed nice red fruity tones coupled with the blood orange found in so many wines this year, layered over a fine base of minerality. The wine is medium-full, transparent and tangy and should be lovely. Typically I have a slight preference for this bottling over the Aux Echézeaux. John Gilman - View from the Cellar

(Domaine Fourrier Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes) Palish red. Captivating, expressive aromas of cherry, smoke, mocha and underbrush; slightly exotic in a positive way. Sweet on entry, then sappy in the middle, thanks to firm acidity and a saline quality. Complex, soil-driven wine but not at all dry. "Will these wines shut down like the 1996s or will they be more like the 2001s?" wondered Fourrier, adding that "2008 is like a vintage of the '70s that came to visit us in an age of phenolic maturity." 90(+?) points

Vins Rare - Tasted 2/3/12 - Exotic nose of red fruit, cherries with a great mineral component. Medium bodied with plenty of punch - very elegant quality to it. 91 points
