Full of pure minerals, apples, and touches of floral spice, this wine is extremely refreshing and a perfect expression of just how wonderful and fruity Vertus wines can be. Be on the lookout for this when it is released. 87-89 points. Brad Baker; Champagne Warrior. Another fascinating and complex wine, the 2004 Brut Premier Cru presents an intriguing combination of richness from the extended aging on its lees married to the pure energy of Vertus. Dried pears, spices, hazelnuts and tobacco are layered into the expressive, creamy finish. The 2004 presents beautiful nuance in its aromas and flavors. At the same time, my sense is that it is best enjoyed over the next few years. The 2004 was aged partly in barrel (1/3rd) and dosage was 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorgement date: July 05, 2011. Vinous/Galloni 92 This is all from chardonnay vines in the coeur de terroir, with one-third of the blend aged in barrel. It's unusually rich for both the vintage and the cru, although it shows a pronounced finesse as well, its silky texture combining with an elegant acidity. Its fruit aromas remain cool, with notes of apple, green pear and green citrus, and its aromas on the finish are long and refined. Although this was disgorged in September of 2011, it still feels youthful and fresh, and it's likely to develop slowly in the cellar. Rating: *(*) Peter Liem, ChampagneGuide.net
