2004 Pascal Doquet Le Mesnil Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Blanc de Blancs

Floral citrus dominates the nose and leads into a structured, powerful body. Slightly sweet oranges and hints of spicy minerals characterize the palate and lead into a long finish of citrus and warm minerals. This wine is really something special and is the best wine I have ever tasted from Doquet.

($120) Pascal Doquet's 2004 Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil sur Oger wraps around the palate with roasted nuts, dried pears, smoke and spices. This is a fairly warm, oxidative style built more on textural depth and volume than minerality. The aromatics are a bit diffuse, which causes the wine to lose some its focus. The 2004 remains a wine of notable personality and character, even if some slightly rough edges remain. Disgorged: February 20, 2013. Vinous/Galloni 90

Pascal Doquet’s 2004 bottling of le Mesnil was disgorged in May of 2015, after having

spent ten years aging sur latte and is produced from forty-nine year-old vines in the family’s

1.67 hectares in this village. This was Pascal’s first year as director of the family domaine and

the wine is excellent, though still quite young and deserving of more time in the cellar. The

bouquet offers up a fine blend of delicious apple, pear, pastry cream, a touch of walnut, complex,

chalky minerality and plenty of smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep,

full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with frothy mousse, crisp acids and excellent focus and

grip on the long, primary and very promising finish. Give this puppy time to blossom! 2020-
