Producer note: Jacques Seysses commented that he believes 2001 is "a very good vintage" but cautioned that it can be variable because "it was very easy to extract color and the various dry extract components so undoubtedly some growers will have extracted too much tannin". Seysses also noted that sugars were good, essentially coming in between 12 and 12.5% with solid pHs and yields in the 45 hl/ha range for villages wines and about 40 hl/ha for the grands crus. The malos were deliberately delayed because slower malos allow for the use of less SO2. Overall, Seysses said that he much prefers 2001 to 2000. Tasting note: Bigger and richer but not finer, offering up very ripe, earthy and fresh red fruit aromas with classy, pure, beautifully defined middle weight flavors of impressive intensity and excellent length. First rate quality here in an understated, rather elegant style and while this will come around quickly for a grand cru, it should hold for many years. Burghound 91

Good deep red. Enticing aromas of candied red fruits and rose petal. Sweet, juicy and pure, with a bright mineral character. Finishes with firm tannins that avoid dryness, and lovely aromatic persistence. Denser and more powerful than most previous vintages of this bottling. 91 points
