Wine Spectator #26 in Top 100! Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Issue 117: November/December 2004 (2001 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc) Good full red. Complex, lively nose melds cassis, blackberry, violet, minerals and spicy oak. Silky and suave on entry, then strong and dense in the middle, with flavors of cassis, dark chocolate and menthol. Very primary Barolo with excellent lift. Finishes very long, with chewy tannins and a light touch. This may well need seven or eight years to fully express itself. 93(+?) points Antonio Galloni's Piedmont Report, 5/1/2005 Massive and strapping, with an exciting nose of sweet ripe fruit, licorice, tar and mint. This masculine, full-bodied Barolo is packed with layers of dense backward dark fruit, prune, plum and macerated cherry flavors, with a distinctly mentholated note that gives the wine a sense of freshness and balance. Finishes with huge tannins which suggest patience will be required. 95 points/drink after 2013, tasted 05/05 (drink starting 2013) 95 points Wine Spectator. Intense aromas of licorice, berries and tobacco with just a hint of citrus. Full-bodied, with an excellent intensity of fruit and a long, silky finish. Juicy and rich. Always classic in a top year. Best after 2008. 800 cases made. (JS) (drink starting 2008) 95 points
